ThyssenKrupp AG, the German industrial giant, has announced a major investment to expand its PSL Bearing division in Povazská Bystrica, Slovakia. The expansion will strengthen PSL’s role in producing large bearings and slewing ring bearings for the rapidly growing wind power market.
$90 Million Investment to Boost Bearing Production
The two-year project, valued at 2 billion Slovak crowns (USD $90 million), is designed to significantly increase PSL’s manufacturing capacity. With the expansion, the company aims to meet rising global demand for high-quality bearings used in wind turbine applications.
Production Growth Targets
Currently, PSL’s large bearing production is valued at around 4 billion crowns ($180 million). Upon completion of the expansion, output is expected to exceed 6 billion crowns ($270 million).
This growth will also create new jobs: PSL’s workforce of approximately 1,100 employees will rise to more than 1,300 once the new facilities are fully operational.
Strong Export Market and Global Presence
PSL Bearing is highly export-oriented, with over 90% of its production shipped abroad. To support international customers, the division maintains sales offices and warehouses in Germany, Russia, and the United States.
Relationship with Rothe Erde
ThyssenKrupp also owns Rothe Erde, another bearing manufacturer with a similar product range. However, PSL and Rothe Erde operate independently, maintaining separate strategies and customer bases while both contributing to ThyssenKrupp’s strong position in the global bearing industry.
Driving Innovation in Wind Power Bearings
With this expansion, ThyssenKrupp PSL is set to become an even stronger supplier for the wind energy sector, ensuring higher capacity, improved efficiency, and advanced solutions for global renewable energy projects.
