Spherical Plain Bearings

Radial Spherical Plain Bearings
Radial Spherical Plain Bearings
Radial spherical plain bearings have an inner ring with a sphered convex outside diameter and an outer ring with a correspondingly sphered but concave inside surface. Their design makes them particularly suitable for bearing arrangements where alignment movements between shaft and housing have to be
Aerospace Spherical Bearings
Aerospace Spherical Bearings
Introduction to aerospace plain bearings: self-lubricating and metal-to-metal spherical bearings, loader slot solutions, self-lubricating and metal-to-metal rod ends, and self-lubricating sleeve bearings.
Angular Contact Spherical Plain Bearings
Angular Contact Spherical Plain Bearings
As their name implies, the sliding contact surfaces of angular contact spherical plain bearings (table 1) are spherical in shape and inclined at an angle to the bearing axis. Consequently, these bearings are well suited for accommodating combined (radial and axial) loads. Single angular contact sphe
Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings
Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings
Thrust spherical plain bearings have a convex spherical surface on the shaft washer and a corresponding concave spherical surface in the housing washer. They are intended to accommodate axial loads primarily but can also accommodate combined (radial and axial) loads. The radial load component of a c

Female Thread Rod Ends
Female Thread Rod Ends
Rod ends are also available for specific applications, for example, where a rod end is attached to the end of a piston rod or at the base of a hydraulic cylinder. For these applications, LILY manufactures rod ends with a slotted shank and a compressible threaded section, or with a "welding shank", w

What are Spherical Plain Bearings?

Spherical Plain Bearings, robust and self-aligning sliding bearings, excel in accommodating impact loads. With their high resistance to such loads, these bearings are ideally

suited for oscillating sections that operate under slow yet substantial loads.

Stainless Steel Spherical Plain Bearings are a popular choice due to their durability and corrosion resistance.

Types of Spherical Plain Bearings

  • Radial Spherical Plain Bearings: Featuring an inner ring with a sphered convex outer diameter and an outer ring with a matching sphered concave inner surface.
  • Angular Contact Spherical Plain Bearings: spherical in shape and are oriented at an angle relative to the bearing axis
  • Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings: Designed with a convex spherical surface on the shaft washer and a matching concave spherical surface on the housing washer.
  • Rod Ends: Composed of a shank-integrated, eye-shaped head that serves as a housing for a spherical plain bearing.

Materials of Spherical Plain Bearings

Different types of Spherical Plain Bearings have different materials.

1. Radial Spherical Plain Bearings:

(1) For those bearings requiring maintenance,

  • Standard steel/steel sliding contact surface combination (designation suffixes E and ES)
  • Heavy-duty steel/steel sliding contact surface combination with multi-groove system (designation suffix ESL)

(2) For those Maintenance-free bearings, materials of sliding contact surface include:

  • Steel/PTFE fabric: (designation suffix TX)
  • Steel/PTFE FRP: (designation suffixes FBAS or FS)
  • Steel/PTFE sintered bronze: (designation suffix C)
  • SKF Explorer steel/steel: (designation suffix ESX)

2. Angular Contact Spherical Plain Bearings:

  • Steel/PTFE FRP: (designation suffix F)
  • Others: (available on request)

3. Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings:

  • Steel/PTFE FRP: (designation suffix F)
  • Others: (available on request)

4. Rod ends:

(1) For rod ends requiring maintenance, materials include:

  • Steel/ steel:

female or male thread

welding shank, cylindrical or rectangular section

  • Steel/bronze:

female or male thread

(2) For maintenance-free rod ends, materials of female or male thread include:

  • steel/PTFE fabric
  • steel/PTFE FRP
  • steel/PTFE sintered bronze

Features of Spherical Plain Bearings

Radial Spherical Plain Bearings: Ideal for accommodating alignment movements in heavy-load applications.

  • Angular Contact Spherical Plain Bearings: Handle combined loads and optimizes load distribution due to their angular orientation.
  • Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings: Suited for vertical shafts or non-aligning movements.
  • Rod Ends: Suitable for articulating joints, providing pivotal movement to control rod assemblies.

What are Spherical Plain Bearings Used For?

Spherical plain bearings, renowned for their load capacity, shock tolerance, and self-alignment, are ideal for high-speed limited applications, such as:

Vibrators

Mining Machinery

Transmissions

heavy-duty Equipment

Shakers

Off-Highway Vehicles

Lift Trucks and Material Handling Equipment

Packaging and Textile Equipment
