Heavy Hex: Structural vs. High-Pressure
Heavy hex screws use a larger hex head for greater wrenching surface and load distribution, and come in two application-specific lines. Structural Applications screws (available in Medium-Strength, High-Strength, and metric versions) are designed for structural load-bearing and durability. High-Pressure Applications screws (available in Steel, 18-8, and 316 Stainless Steel) are built for pipe flanges and pressure-vessel joints. A ready-made stainless steel hex screw and nut kit for pipe flanges is also available.
Flanged vs. Serrated-Flange
Flanged hex head screws have a smooth, built-in washer-like flange under the head that spreads the load and eliminates the need for a separate washer. Serrated-flange screws add teeth to the underside of that flange to bite into the mating surface and resist loosening under vibration. Both styles are available across Grade 5, Class 8.8, Grade 8, Class 10.9, 18-8 and 316 stainless steel, and fiberglass.
