Elastomer Seal Performance in SPK Fuel Applications
Importance of Fuel Composition
Trelleborg's studies highlight the importance of specifying elastomer materials for aerospace synthetic paraffinic kerosene (SPK) fuels.
Traditional NBR materials may shrink in SPK due to lack of aromatic hydrocarbons, whereas fluoroelastomer materials maintain performance.
Test Findings and Recommendations
Tests in Jet A-1, SPK, and Jet A-1/SPK blends show that adequate aromatic content prevents shrinkage of traditional NBR seals.
Aromatics induce controlled swell in seals, ensuring reliable performance.
Careful material selection is essential when SPKs are used in aerospace fuel systems.
