Loose Spherical Roller Bearings

What are spherical rollers?

The spherical roller are precision rolling elements used to spherical/ellipsoid bearing. end configurations include flat, spherical, and cone shaped. These bearings have two rows of barrel shaped (spherical) rollers which run on a common spherical outer and inner raceway, they are inclined at an angle to the bearings axis. Their design offers many features such as self alignment, insensitivity to misalignment, tolerance to heavy radial and axial loads etc. They are manufactured with in both parallel and tapered bore variants.

Application of spherical rollers

Spherical roller bearings use rollers that are thicker in the middle and thinner at the ends; the race is shaped to match. Spherical roller bearings can thus adjust to support misaligned loads. However, spherical rollers are difficult to produce and thus expensive, and the bearings have higher friction than a comparable ball bearing since different parts of the spherical rollers run at different speeds on the rounded race and thus there are opposing forces along the bearing/race contact.
