RBC Bearings Inc., a large publicly traded manufacturer of precision bearings and components, has selected Houston for its launching pad into the wind energy business.
RBC is developing a $17 million plant near Hobby Airport where it will manufacture slewing ring bearings that are used in wind turbines, as well as other machinery.
Oxford, Conn.-based RBC is ramping up in response to a huge worldwide demand for slewing ring bearings needed in the emerging wind energy field, says Rick Edwards, vice president and general manager of one of RBC?s divisions.
?The new demand for the industry would be measured in billions of dollars per year,?says Edwards, who offices in Hartsville, S.C.
